[CARTO](https://carto.com/) is a [[Spatial Data Science|spatial analysis]] platform that is *cloud-native*, that is, all the [[data]] is not stored in the platform, but read from any [[Cloud Computing|cloud provider]] that may be used. Currently, the cloud backends that CARTO support out of the box are [[BigQuery]], [[Redshift]], [[Snowflake]] and [[Databricks]]. It also features connection to any self-hosted [[PostgreSQL]] database. There are several components at play in the CARTO platform, mainly: - [[CARTO Builder]], the main interface used to build and share maps as well as perform [[Spatial Data Science|spatial analysis]]. - [[CARTO Data Explorer]], an interface to explore different [[Data Warehouse|data warehouses]] that includes connections for [[BigQuery]], [[Snowflake]], [[Databricks]] and [[PostgreSQL]]; as well as [[CARTO Data Warehouse]], a provisioned connection to [[BigQuery]] for all users. - The [[Analytics Toolbox]], a suite of [[Spatial Data Science|spatial analysis]] functions provided for the CARTO users. - [[CARTO Workflows]], a no-code or low-code tool to perform [[Spatial Data Science|spatial analysis]]. - [[CARTO for Developers]], a suite of different APIs to develop custom applications.
