Uruguayan painter and theorist born in 1874 in [[Montevideo]], [[Uruguay]]. The founder of [[Constructive Universalism]], he synthesised European [[Constructivism|constructivist]] abstraction with pre-Columbian symbolism, creating a uniquely Latin American modernist vocabulary. Died 1949.
