In statistics, **Moran's $I$** is a measure of [[Spatial Autocorrelation|spatial autocorrelation]]. There are several variants, and therefore several uses for it. **Global Moran's $I$** is a measure of the overall clustering of the spatial data. It yields a single statistic for the whole study area, and therefore assumes homogeneity. It is inversely related to [[Geary's C]], but not identical. When such homogeneity does not hold, it is possible to use **Local Moran's $I$**, which computes the statistic for each spatial unit.
