That was a truly slow burn. It is heavy on the shoulders, and the movie goes slowly to the only place possible in that story, with those characters. Everyone acts very good, but Luis Zahera and Diego Anido win by a landslide on being terrible human beings under desperate circumstances. The highlights for me:

  • The scene at the bar, where Antoine faces both brothers, shot in a single take, with a fixed camera behind the bar.
  • The chase that ends with Antoine being strangled is pure rural horror.
  • The scene where Olga faces the brothers and talks straight to their mother: “your children are going to prison, so you’ll be alone like I am. I’ll be up there if you need anything” – shivers.

Some people got really offended by this movie, which I guess it’s automatically invalidated once you realize it’s based on a true story
