I really enjoyed this movie. We attended a very special session in Cines Paz that featured Pedro Almodóvar in the flesh coming over and introducing the film, as well as some of the motivations for the movie and his thoughts while writing it.
I really enjoyed the film. It is a profoundly Almodóvar-esque movie: the classic bright outfits, the colors, the visuals, the impeccable casting and their acting… Loosely (or not) auto-biographical, deals with how reality can seep into fiction and backwards, and that’s how the movie is shot: coming in and out of the script, to see a Leonardo Sbaraglia struggling with some sort of writer’s block and winging it with his real life events. It also explores, in particular, grief and how each one deals with it. I really think it’s the best movie Pedro Almodóvar has released since, at the very least, Dolor y gloria.
The final scene with the confrontation in the park is just incredible, and how it is shot is just chilling. I also really liked Carmen Machi’s appearance and Amaia Romero singing Chavela Vargas is just fan service.
