F-111

Oil on canvas with aluminum, twenty-three sections, 10 × 86’ (304.8 × 2621.3 cm). A monumental 86-foot-long painting wrapping an entire room, juxtaposing the F-111 fighter-bomber with images of consumer culture — spaghetti, a hair dryer, a child under a missile-shaped umbrella, an atomic blast. Rosenquist’s masterwork critiques the military-industrial complex through Pop Art’s visual language.
