Even though at first I rejected this idea because it seemed like a hyperbole, the more time it passes, the more I am convinced that carrying TikTok or Instagram Reels installed a cell phone in my pocket is basically carrying a tiny slot machine everywhere. Doomscrolling is very similar to that feeling of a great dopamine hit just about to come, pushing buttons until the jackpot hits. This time the currency is not money, but our attention, and I am not sure of the long term effects that can have in all of us consuming content that way.
