Web Mercator is a map projection used as the de-facto standard in most online map providers. It is a variant of the Mercator Projection that uses a spherical Earth instead of an ellipsoid, and uses the WGS84 coordinate system. Its EPSG code is EPSG:3857, although some others have been used historically.
