How to set up RetroBat for console emulation, covering PS2 (PCSX2), PS3 (RPCS3), and Nintendo Switch (Ryubing). For BIOS files, firmware, keys, and ROMs, see Emulation Resources and Downloads.

Installation

Download and install from retrobat.org.

PS2 Setup

1. Get a PS2 BIOS file (e.g., scph39001.bin for US)
2. Place it in <RetroBat>\bios\pcsx2\bios\
3. Drop game files (.iso, .chd, .bin) in <RetroBat>\roms\ps2\
4. Launch a game — PCSX2 auto-downloads on first launch
5. Controllers auto-configure

PS3 Setup

1. Download PS3 firmware (PS3UPDAT.PUP) from PlayStation support
2. Download RPCS3 from rpcs3.net/download and extract into <RetroBat>\emulators\rpcs3\
3. Run rpcs3.exe directly, go to File > Install Firmware, select the .PUP file
4. For disc games: copy the game folder (containing PS3_DISC.SFB) into <RetroBat>\roms\ps3\ and rename it with .ps3 extension (e.g., Skate.ps3)
5. Launch from RetroBat

Nintendo Switch Setup

1. Download Ryubing from ryubing.org and extract the contents (or the contents of publish\ if present) into <RetroBat>\emulators\ryujinx\ — the .exe must sit at the root of that folder
2. Place prod.keys in both locations:
   • <RetroBat>\emulators\ryujinx\portable\system\prod.keys
   • <RetroBat>\saves\switch\ryujinx\portable\system\prod.keys
3. Place firmware files (.nca) in both locations:
   • <RetroBat>\emulators\ryujinx\portable\system\Contents\registered\
   • <RetroBat>\saves\switch\ryujinx\portable\system\Contents\registered\
4. Open Ryujinx.exe directly and install firmware via Tools > Install Firmware (this step is required even if files are already in place)
5. Drop ROMs (.nsp, .xci) in <RetroBat>\roms\switch\
6. Launch from RetroBat

Keys and firmware must be in both paths

RetroBat and Ryubing look in different directories depending on context. Placing prod.keys and firmware in only one location will cause “keys not found” or “emulator exited unexpectedly” errors. The firmware must also be installed manually through Ryubing’s UI.

RetroBat may reset firmware after reboot

RetroBat can overwrite Ryubing’s config on launch, causing firmware to “disappear” after a system reboot. If you get RYU-0002: Firmware not found after rebooting, open Ryujinx.exe directly and reinstall firmware via Tools > Install Firmware.

Scraping Metadata

1. Navigate to a system’s game list
2. Press Start > Scraper
3. Choose ScreenScraper (free account at screenscraper.fr recommended for faster scraping) or TheGamesDB (no account needed)
4. Hit Scrape Now

Common Tweaks

Disable video previews (loud auto-playing videos on game select)

Start > UI Settings > Show Game Videos / Video Preview > Off. Or mute via Video Audio > Off.

Disable bezels/decorations (console frame overlay)

Start > Game Settings > Decorations > None

Exiting a game

Hotkey + Start on controller (Hotkey = Select/Back), or Alt+F4 / Esc on keyboard. Configurable in Main Menu > Game Settings > Hotkey Settings.
